Summer Skincare Favs

For those with year round, dry skin, summer is a savior. This isn’t the case for people like me who suffer from chronic combo skin. Therefore, in order to avoid three months of using oil-blotting papers, like napkins on Costco pizza, I need to switch things up. Here are a few products that save my skin from the sweat and sun.

Dry, oily, combo, or sensitive… no matter the skin type, you should always use a moisturizer. By keeping your skin hydrated, your keeping it healthy - to some extent of course. Without proper hydration, skin has difficulty repairing itself. So regardless of how oily I get, I still moisturize - during the summer, I reach for something more lightweight. Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Moisturizer quickly became a favorite for me for two reasons. The first being the yummy jolly rancher scent, and the second, it’s ability to quickly seep into my skin and do an amazing job at keeping me hydrated (minus the grease!).

Aside from keeping your skin hydrated, it is also important to use treatments. Treatments range from masks to massages, and serums. Since serums are a treatment, it is important to choose which best matches your skincare concerns. For me, I look for things that will brighten my acne scars, has anti-aging properties, and overall improves the look of my skin. My secret skincare weapon of choice, is vitamin-c. Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum packs a gorgeous glow, supports the skin’s collagen production, and is perfectly lightweight for those hotter months.

Eye creams are essential for me because… while I don’t mind aging “gracefully”, I’d like to put off crow’s feet for as long as I can. The Sunday Riley Auto Correct eye cream is perfect for summer because it absorbs quickly, but frankly, I would use it year round. One thing I always look for in an eye cream is “deputing” or “brightens dark circles” because I wake up in the a.m. with both. With Auto Correct, you wouldn’t know that ;).

SPF is the most non-negotiable part of a skincare routine. Without SPF, you’ll notice things like premature aging, dark spots, peeling, and in the worst case - skin cancer. I didn’t grow up around sunny beaches, so on days that I went as a child, I didn’t apply sunscreen because it was always overcast. I quickly learned my lesson the hard way. Now as an adult, reapply SPF can be tricky since I use foundation almost daily. So, in order to reapply easily, I like to reach for a spray instead of a lotion. Shiseido’s Ultimate Sun Protection Spray has SPF 50+ and can be used on both the face and body. Oh, and did I mention that it’s water-resistant?

Last, but so far from least, is the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. I am a sucker for skin mists because you can use them to prep your skin, to set your make-up, and to refresh your skin throughout the day. Tatcha’s Skin Mist settles perfectly on the skin, delivering lightweight hydration - without a greasy sheen.
